Route 3 leads deep into the eastern section of Altyn-Emel National Park. You will find brightly colored chalk canyons and dark volcanic rock formations.
Access this route from the Basshi village gateway. The drive requires a high-clearance vehicle to navigate the unpaved washboard dirt tracks safely. Stay on the designated roads at all times, as off-road driving is strictly prohibited.
Pack your own food and at least 3 liters of water per person per day. There are no facilities or shops past the entrance checkpoint. Plan to finish your drive and exit the park before dusk.

These conical hills and deep canyons rise from an ancient sea floor. Bands of white, red, yellow, and brown rock define the landscape. Dinosaur and prehistoric mammal fossils were discovered here. Hike deep into the dry canyons to fully see the formations and escape the wind.

Millions of years of wind erosion shaped these dark-purple and brown volcanic mountains. They form a rugged landscape filled with bizarre, cavernous shapes. Climb directly into the hollow caves and wind-carved rock pockets for photos.

This enormous, ancient tree survives in the desert by tapping into a deep underground water source. It features thick, winding branches that spread wide. The tree provides rare, dense shade, making it the best spot to eat your packed lunch.
